Jubilee
Maynard and Reznor… well sort of. Maynard is guest vocals on Aaron North’s, former Nine Inch Nails guitarist, band project titled Jubilee. Band members are Aaron North (vocals, guitar), Michael Shuman (vocals, bass), Jeff Lynn (guitar), Troy “Boy” Petrey (drums). Several outstanding guest musicians make appearances on their debut album, In With The Out Crowd: Julian Gross, Nick Jago, Dave Grohl, Joey Castillo, Josh Freese, Kevin Haskins, Josh Homme, Trent Reznor, Taylor Hawkins and Maynard James Keenan.
The song worth mentioning because of the aforementioned is I Don’t Have An Excuse, I Just Need A Little Help.
Maynard sings with Aaron, and Mike on this song. Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) programmed the drumbeats for it, and Julian Gross (Liars) played “real” drums over those.
This obviously begs the question when will we have a true collaboration with Trent Reznor and Maynard James Keenan? Sure we got Passive from A Perfect Circle, but it was a bit anticlimactic with Reznor being disappointed with the Tapeworm project and unhappy with the premature release of an earlier version of the song.
Reznor in reference to the abandoned Tapeworm project with Keenan:
I was starting to work on my thing and [Keenan] was on tour. It just got complicated and seemed like one not to pursue. It was pretty good, but I wouldn’t put a record out of my own that I thought was “pretty good”…
I like him a lot and I really think he’s the best vocalist out there today and a good friend.
One can only hope that the time is ripe for the two to work together finally.
