One, it’s really my passion even before design and technology. Two, I wanted to pick up some commission work instead of doing the odd design jobs I usually do to fill in the income gaps. I wanted to evaluate my old work for comparison and realized that my portfolio was stolen last year when my car was broken into, among other things. It was really disheartening because most of illustrations were on my iPod which was also stolen and my old G5 which I no longer have. I also wasn&#8217;t savvy enough to leave the files on Dropbox either.</p> <p>Fortunately I still have a few low res scans <a href="http://illustrations.rondomingue.com">here</a>.</p> <p>However, I’ve been using this as motivation to create new art. Mostly it&#8217;s pop culture references from <em>Star Wars</em> to <em>Mad Men</em> but I realized what was stolen really wasn&#8217;t that much. I spent hours creating the art in that portfolio but it was hardly representative of my current style and artistic sensibilities. I was also far from prolific, over 20 years of illustrating and I think I had maybe 12 solid pieces I liked so theoretically I hadn&#8217;t lost anything.</p> <p>This really got me doing some self-reflection of not only my career but my body of work. I read an excerpt once about Norman Rockwell, that when his studio burned down he lost a lot of his art from the <em>Saturday Evening Post</em> but had entered a new more creative phase of his career.</p> <p>I&#8217;m hoping a new passage has open for me.
